Canada Court Rejects Generic Drug makers Bid to market Generic Viagra
19 June, 2009
The Federal Court of Canada rejected
generic drug maker Novapharm Ltd's bid to be allowed
to market a generic version of Pfizer Inc's erectile
dysfunction drug Viagra (Sildenafil
Citrate).
The decision has been taken keeping in mind Pfizer's
Canadian patent. The court said Novapharm should not
be allowed to introduce a generic version until Pfizer's
Canadian patent expires in 2014. The court rejected
Novapharm's allegation that the patent is invalid. Novapharm
is part of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
