Excellus Promotes
Generic Drugs
01 May, 2006
OExcellus BlueCross BlueShield launched
a program Monday to save consumers money on prescription
drugs.
The "Generics Are Real"
campaign is designed to encourage patients to choose
generic
drugs over name-brand drugs. Excellus BlueCross
BlueShield says switching to generic drugs can save
hundreds of millions of dollars for employers.
"It's important for employers
who are making decisions as to how much of the insurance
costs they are going to pass along to their employers,
or whether they can make capital improvements or if
they have to use the money basically just to cover the
high cost of drugs," said pharmacy officer Joel
Owerbach.
Local employer Birds Eye Foods said
it will ask employees here in Rochester and worldwide
to try the program.
